By Kemi Mobuse - Tuesday, June 28, 2016

It was through the Instagram Explore page that I discovered Tǽillὸ. I was so excited by the uniqueness of her work and her products. It was combination of things that got me hooked so quickly: how well the Instagram page was curated, how well designed the layout settings were and how contemporary she has made our traditional materials look! I was very impressed very quickly

Actually, I have been on the lookout for someone that uses Ankara and other African materials as creatively as her, especially for interior decoration designs, You can then imagine, how happy I felt coming across her page. IT was like a breath of fresh Air, I immediately sent her a message asking for a chance to interview her and know more about her brand and she obliged.

I am glad to let you know that Taeillo is a Lagos based creative brand who expresses her ideas of how African lifestyle is beyond runway Fashion with home with her African inspired pieces through
 Furniture
 Home accessories
 Fashion

She believes in the Yoruba adage which says “Ile la tin keshorode” The wellness in your home is reflected in your outlook.
Taeillo is built on a culture

Read excerpts from the interview below…..

KMB: Can we meet you? What do you do?

Taeillo: I am Taeillo. I studied architecture in the University of Lagos and has a Masters degree in environmental design with experience in top architecture and interior design and furniture manufacturing firms in Lagos.

KMB: What is the name of your brand and how old is it?

Taeillo: The brand is Taeillo and we are just 3 months old.

KMB: So, I take it your brand is named after you. May I ask why that is?

Taeillo: Well, my parents did give me Taeillo. It's a name I carved out for myself meaning a creative and the whole idea is to create a new modern Africa.

KMB: Looking at some of your designs, I observed most of them are made of African inspired fabrics, may I ask why you chose to work with these materials and not others?

Taeillo: Well, my passion for fabrics is simply based on my first love for Aso oke and how colourful African fabrics are and each fabric tells a story of the colourful lifestyle of Africans

KMB: What does your brand aim to achieve exactly and how?

Taeillo: Taeillo realized that, many of our traditional arts and craft evolved overtime to include practical and decorative items and that human expressions find their way through various forms of art so I resolved in my heart to brand culture and identity and make it appealing to modern Nigerians and Africans through design.

KMB: How was starting out for you, capital wise?

Taeillo: Starting was tough but God is involved ☺

KMB: Can you tell us how your brand works exactly?
I mean you redesign homes or you make your own items for sale from your outlet?

Taeillo: We do both because we get enquires for both. We sell out from our outlets and we also get requests to help redesign homes.

KMB: What words do you live by as an entrepreneur?

Taeillo: I have learnt that, people will forget what you said people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you make them feel-maya Angelou and that nothing can defeat the light that shines from within

KMB: What can you say makes you stand out from others in same field?

Taeillo: Our creative thought process put into the design of our pieces which is unbeatable and how we make our customers feel special

KMB: Where do you see Taeillo in say 5years?

Taeillo: In the next 5 years I see Taeillo in each of the continents of the world exporting the African culture and way of living to the world. We believe it's possible

KMB: Any advice for upcoming entrepreneurs?
