It is a hearing world after all...... part 1

By Kemi Mobuse - Saturday, February 27, 2016

Thinking back, it was really hard to pin point the exact moment when the hearing loss really began, all i knew for certain was, everything went suddenly going quiet, not in a day, but gradually.

I noticed people had to shout, elbow or even pinch me to let me know i was being called.

Taking spelling dictations  in class back then was the highlight of my day, but alas, all that became a thing of the past, as i strain very hard to hear even the tiniest bit of sound, sadly; slowly but surely, it was getting worse,

I became a shadow of my once buoyant self, i was no longer the girl who occupied various lead positions in the several clubs the school had, dancing became a thing of the past since i could not really hear the music, i began singing off key actually beleiveing i was in tune with everyone else, whereas.... and i struggled to dominate the conversation, so i wouldn't be left out.

I began keeping very much to myself, became a recluse and always scared, but; i read all the more harder, so i would not miss out....but to the Glory of God, Secondary school came and went.

Be thankful today for the ears you have, and take good care of them, be conscious of the environment you are in, you never know how it could start...

Have you ever felt like you might be alone with your hearing loss?  None of your friends have hearing loss, or your parents and maybe it’s just you?  Of course it sounds silly, but every once in a while you might feel like that. Do you know a lot of celebrities even have hearing loss and yet, are still "celebs" ?
Did you Know Halle Berry has lost 80 % of her hearing?
A person struggling with hearing loss is still a whole person, just like a person who has eye defect and uses glasses or contact is still a whole person.

Hearing Loss causes can be due to :
  • Exposure to loud noise.
  • Head trauma.
  • Virus or disease.
  • Autoimmune inner ear disease.
  • Hearing loss that runs in the family.
  • Aging (presbycusis)
  • Malformation of the inner ear.
  • Meniere's Disease

Your hearing loss does not define you, it can not make or mar you, because there is always a solution.
