The idea of giving a woman more confidence and sophistication inspired me to pursue my passion- CEO Jummai Africa Beauty

By Kemi Mobuse - Friday, October 06, 2017

Anyone who knows me knows that I love makeup. I can list my favorite products by brand and price. Just because I love makeup doesn't mean it's some sort of mask. I am comfortable walking around with no makeup, and do it pretty frequently. It's not that I have to wear makeup; I just enjoy putting it on.

My parents joke about where I came from because No one in my family shares my passion for makeup. My husband especially always find a way to complain and nag, when it’s time for me to apply my makeup, especially on Sundays.
To save himself the habit, the poor guy decided, its best, He sleeps in late and then get up to shower when I’m done with my makeup,  hehe……werin concern me, I sha must look good for God 😉😉😉😉…..and when it’s time for weddings, knowing the makeup artist will take a while, he will start his grumbling in advance and start mumbling and hissing….but the moment the makeup is done, he suddenly assumes a macho pose and start preening like a peacock, as if the makeup was done on him, smh! Men sha! Don’t even get me started on when we are the event, husby will sit so close, I would barely be able to breathe, haha!

Chinyere Nwaneri has been interested in beauty from a very young age. It was this passion that led her to start her brand;Jummai Africa beauty where she functions both as amakeup artist and a beadmaker, after having acquired the essential expertise. In a candid chat, Chinyere talks about common beauty mistakes, obsession with beauty, beauty tips and more.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: Tell me about yourself and your career so far, how did you become a makeup artist?

Jummai Africa: My name is Chinyere Nwaneri, I'm a make-up artist and bead designer...I'm a Mass communication graduate; I became a makeup artist because beauty is my passion. I always liked the idea of giving a woman more confidence and sophistication.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: what is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?

Jummai Africa: For Me, it's always care for your skin especially your face.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: What is the name of your brand and how old is it?

Jummai Africa: Jummai Africa beauty. We started up 3years ago but got fully registered last year.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: what are some common beauty mistakes that women make?

Jummai Africa: Wearing too much makeup. Or wearing the wrong makeup for the wrong occasion.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Jummai Africa: Nowhere in particular. That's the beauty of art. You're not restricted to thinking in a box.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: nice one!

Kemi Mobuse Blog: Why the name Jummai Africa?

Jummai Africa: Jummai is my northern name... the 'Africa' is an indication of my roots. I'm proudly African.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: What do you love most about make up?

Jummai Africa: The fact that it gives you a lot of confidence. I struggle with acne and a lot of women struggle with different things that as much as they are proud of it, they wouldn’t want everyone to see it every other day. And that's what make up does. It makes you into what you want to look like. It might seem like a false way of living to some but sometimes we just want to feel good even if it's for a minute.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: If you weren’t a makeup artist, what else would you do?

Jummai Africa: I can't even begin to tell you the things I'm passionate about or things I can do. I'll probably do something in the media (as part of my course of study) or I'll do something even more creative.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?

Jummai Africa: Simplicity. Less is always more. I won't say anything sets me apart from other makeup artists. Everyone has their own peculiar way of doing things.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: What products do you think should be a staple in every woman's purse?

Jummai Africa: A lip balm definitely because no chapped lip looks good.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: What’s your favorite make up product?

Jummai Africa: I really don't have any particular one..I use a lot of products and the producers put a lot of work into that which isn't easy at all.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Jummai Africa: Well, I never had a formal training per se...I paid in one of the big brands in Nigeria during my service year but never got around going for the training because I was so busy with work. I actually went only for a day. Thereafter, I just got products and started practicing.

Kemi Mobuse Blog: Lastly, How can you be contacted?
