I resigned my job to start a business yet had no money or any idea what business! - CEO Impeccable Creations

By Kemi Mobuse - Friday, March 18, 2016

I have always been on the lookout for women or men of courage, so it felt like a dream, when someone linked me up with Ms Adenike Alonge, her courage is really inspiring and she did what a lot of people, even me, fear to do, but when you have God at your back, well! Your success is certainly a done deal!

She granted KMB an interview to take us through her journey, excerpts below....

Kemi Mobuse blog: Good evening, can we meet you?

Impeccable Creations: I am Adenike Alonge, I run Impeccable Creations, a lagos based company that makes real leather fashion accessories for men and women.

Kemi Mobuse blog: Does that mean, I can call you a fashion designer , right?

Impeccable Creations: Fashion Designers make cloths, I don't make cloths, I make accessories

Kemi Mobuse blog: Nice one

Kemi Mobuse blog: What inspired you going into fashion accessories creation?

Impeccable Creations: I have an inborn talent, also to take Nigeria to the next level we need to get our hands dirty and start "producing"

Kemi Mobuse blog: When and how did you start out?

Impeccable Creations: I started out exactly year ago this month. I started by stringing the few pieces of leather and fabrics I had from 2 years before. I made a few purses and I really liked them. Some were not so good though.
I showed them to people and it's either they liked it or they didn't...
I made the duty of always asking why they didn’t like it, I built on those and I am where I am today

Kemi Mobuse blog: How old is your brand now?

Impeccable Creations: A year old. We started out in March 2015.

Kemi Mobuse blog: And how has the market reception been?

Impeccable Creations: In all fairness it's been good. Could be better though. 😄

Kemi Mobuse blog: Lol! It will be

Kemi Mobuse blog: Is this currently, all you do?

Impeccable Creations: Yes please. I resigned my appointment with my employer Dec 31, 2014 and started out fully in March the next year.

Kemi Mobuse blog: Wow! That was a bold move. Weren't you scared?

Impeccable Creations: Ah! I was scared oh! Infact, I rewrote my resignation letter twice and I kept moving the date forward.
I eventually had to break the jinx in November ending because of the mandatory one month notice.

Kemi Mobuse blog: Lmaaaooo@ moving the date forward

Kemi Mobuse blog: What now happened after you submitted the letter. How did you feel?

Impeccable Creations: Relief that, I finally conquered my fear, but, I didn’t even know what I wanted to do after that. It took me 2 months to know what I wanted to do, don't ask me why I didn’t figure it out before resigning, I had a very time consuming job. I needed time to be able to think

Kemi Mobuse blog: Heya. And how did you eventually take the step? What of the startup capital?

Impeccable Creations: I had pieces of leather from about 2 years back, I had a sewing machine, I had some tools, I didn’t start with money, I started with things I had at home

Kemi Mobuse blog: Awwwww. And it's been upward from there, I believe?

Impeccable Creations: Oh sure, Upward yes.

Kemi Mobuse blog: What challenges did you experience?

Impeccable Creations: The only challenge I have is that Nigerians don't like made in Naija products.
Some do though; they don’t care where it is made as long as it is good quality

Kemi Mobuse blog: Yes. That is the main challenge. That's why, KMB is here, we need to work hard at what we do, to make it outshine, made in Uk

Impeccable Creations: Some would rather buy a fake/ low quality Hermes than buy a cheaper better quality Nigerian brand. We are gradually getting there though

Kemi Mobuse blog: If you were given a chance to start over. What would yu change? Or do differently

Impeccable Creations: Ermmm, I think I like the way I started and where I am now is good. I don’t have any regrets

Kemi Mobuse blog: What has been an entrepreneur taught you?

Impeccable Creations: That you don't necessarily need money to start out in business. In fact, if you have all the money you thought you need, chances are that one will waste the money. Waste in the sense that, 6 months after, you will wish you didn't spend it the way you did

Kemi Mobuse blog: What has been the most memorable experience since you started?

Impeccable Creations: I have quite a number of interesting experiences; one that stands out is that, I now work from a place of rest. I do not look forward to weekends and public holidays like I used to,I work every day! Its either I'm making stuff or marketing or selling.

Kemi Mobuse blog: What three advices will you give to upcoming entrepreneurs?

Impeccable Creations: God does not leave anyone without a talent. You just need to be attentive, and you do not have to look far, it is right at your finger tips, yes, that close.

Secondly, you do not need money to start off in business, if you have all the money you think you need, please start with only a quarter of it.

Thirdly, you are more powerful than you thought you were, the things we fear are not so hard, just try and you will discover how simple those things are.

Impeccable Creations: Can I add a fourth one? Learn creative ways of marketing and selling your goods/services.

Lastly,just START!
