While looking through twitter one day, i came across some beautiful Kaftan, Shirts and Suits, my curiosity was piqued, and i was determined to track down the designer, getting him to sit still for an interview was a herculean task, but i eventually got my wish, lol!

Below is what we discussed:

Kemi Mobuse blog: Can we meet you?

Bashir: My Name is Bashir Sulaiman Zuntu and I graduated from University of Abuja in 2010 with a degree in Accounting and did my Masters in Finance from Coventry University.

Kemi Mobuse blog: What do you do?

Bashir: Fashion Design, Tailoring and Events Planning

Kemi Mobuse blog: What exactly do you produce?

Bashir: Kaftan, Shirts, Suits, that's all we do for now

Kemi Mobuse blog: What is your brand name? And what is the inspiration behind it?

Bashir: BZ Designs; My motivation stems from my desire to share my style with other people and having family members like Fatima Zuntu and Nana Kusherki who started before me and seeing how far and how much they've achieved in a short period made me want to emulate them and see how far I can go. In fact my sister Fatima was the master brain behind the name and concept for my company.

Kemi Mobuse blog: How old is your brand and how has the market reception been?

Bashir: I started sometimes in 2012. The market reception has been favourable for BZ Company, we have massive clients but to succeed in the fashion industry, you must learn how to deal with clients, deliver within given time from & keep to your words. On turnover, it varies but we record good returns at the end of the day.

Kemi Mobuse blog: What challenges have you experienced?

Bashir: We've experienced so many challenges but the most pressing ones are electricity, fluctuating economy & lack of financial incentives from financial institutions to enable us expand the scope of our business.

Kemi Mobuse blog: What has it been like being an entrepreneur? What have you learnt?

Bashir: The best lesson that I have learnt so far is that it pays to be self employed & to never give up on your dreams. Also, I've learnt that it does not matter what one studied in the university, you can make broad in other profession

Kemi Mobuse blog: What do you think, needs improvement in your business?
And how do you plan to achieve that?

Bashir: The prices should be affordable not just for the elite or average but also for the common man. So, We are working on how to get cheaper fabrics, materials for production & labour
With that we should be able to take down the prices to the lowest rate

Kemi Mobuse blog: Where do you see your brand in 5 years?

Bashir: BZ in 5years?? In all honesty, Our company is doing really great & our priority now is to maintain our standards & also improve everyday

Kemi Mobuse blog: What advice will you give upcoming entrepreneurs?

Bashir: My candid advice is to those seeking for employment, they should look inward, let them learn a trade & explore the inherent talent in them, there are lots of opportunities out there but you can only explore them if you have something to offer.
